Foreign businesses who conduct business within Bahrain (especially those businesses domiciled in other GCC states) must keep up the pace if they want to claim a cross-border VAT refund from Bahrain for 2019 expenses as the deadline is 31st March 2020.
Certain non-resident businesses who meet the criteria are eligible for a VAT refund of the 5% vat levy on Bahrain expenses but must hurry to prepare all supporting documents and invoices for submission if they want to meet the 31st March 2020.
However, this has been made quite difficult as Bahrain’s National Bureau for Revenue (NBR) has not yet provided detailed guidance on the refund mechanism.
VAT IT is aware of the situation and is in contact with the NBR to receive further information on valid refund submissions.
We urge any of our clients who have done business or travelled to Bahrain in 2019 – especially our gulf clients in other GCC states – to get in touch with us so we can explore any of the cross-border VAT refund opportunities available in Bahrain for your business.
