Unternehmen, die den Schwellenwert erreichen, müssen sich registrieren lassen, während Unternehmen, die darunter liegen, sich gemäß dem niederländischen Mehrwertsteuergesetz freiwillig registrieren lassen können.
Die Niederlande halten sich an die Mehrwertsteuerregeln der EU (ESS). Unternehmen, die digitale Dienstleistungen anbieten (z. B. Website-Hosting, Software, digitale Medien), müssen den Mehrwertsteuersatz entsprechend dem Standort des Verbrauchers anwenden und nutzen dafür häufig das OSS-System für grenzüberschreitende Dienstleistungen.
Die meisten Geschäftsausgaben können in der Regel im Rahmen einer niederländischen Mehrwertsteuerrückerstattung geltend gemacht werden, mit Ausnahme der folgenden nicht erstattungsfähigen Ausgaben: Verpflegung, Getränke und Restaurantleistungen, Bewirtungskosten und Fahrzeugmiete über 30 Tage. Es ist auch zu beachten, dass Fahrzeugkosten (außer Kraftstoff) in der Regel nur zu 84 % erstattungsfähig sind, es sei denn, der Antragsteller kann nachweisen, dass das Fahrzeug ausschließlich für geschäftliche Zwecke genutzt wurde.
Für eine Mehrwertsteuerrückerstattung in den Niederlanden sind keine Originale erforderlich, es können auch Fotokopien eingereicht werden.
Die vierteljährlichen Mehrwertsteuerrückerstattungen in den Niederlanden gemäß der 8. und 13. Richtlinie sollten 400,00 EUR übersteigen. Die jährlichen Mehrwertsteuerrückerstattungen in den Niederlanden gemäß der 8. und 13. Richtlinie sollten 50,00 EUR übersteigen.
