Deze gids biedt een overzicht van de btw in Letland, inclusief de geldende tarieven, registratievereisten, nalevingsverplichtingen en indieningstermijnen. Hij is bedoeld voor bedrijven die transacties uitvoeren binnen Letland.
Letland gebruikt btw als instrument om groene energie te promoten, met verlaagde tarieven voor milieuvriendelijke producten.
Buitenlandse bedrijven die btw betalen over in aanmerking komende uitgaven in Letland, kunnen deze mogelijk terugvorderen.

Doet u zaken in Letland? Dan moet u zich houden aan de regels van de Letse btw-wet.
Alleen bedrijven die de btw-drempel overschrijden, moeten zich registreren; bedrijven die onder deze drempel blijven, kunnen ervoor kiezen zich vrijwillig te registreren.
Letland past btw toe op digitale diensten op basis van de locatie van de consument, waarbij in het algemeen gebruik wordt gemaakt van het OSS-systeem voor grensoverschrijdende diensten binnen de EU.
Een aanvraag voor btw-teruggave in Letland moet worden ingediend vóór 30 september van het jaar volgend op het jaar waarin de btw in Letland is betaald, voor btw-teruggave in Letland op grond van zowel de 8e richtlijn als de 13e richtlijn. Btw-teruggave in Letland kan per kwartaal en per jaar worden aangevraagd, maar de aanvraagperiodes voor btw-teruggave in Letland mogen elkaar niet overlappen.

Naast het standaard btw-tarief van 21% in Letland, zijn er ook verlaagde btw-tarieven van 12% en 5% die worden geheven op bepaalde artikelen, zoals levensmiddelen, farmaceutische en medische apparatuur en personenvervoer. Uitgaven die in Letland over het algemeen in aanmerking komen voor btw-teruggave, worden belast tegen het standaard btw-tarief in Letland, met uitzondering van taxi's en openbaar vervoer, evenals accommodatie, die worden belast tegen het verlaagde btw-tarief in Letland van 12%.
